How can I get my page to show up better in search engines?
The process of designing web pages so that they can be found through various search mechanisms is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Search engines like Google.com and Yahoo.com have devised sophisticated methods of determining the ranking of results for searches. The methods used are designed to keep people from easily manipulating the search results on these engines. The best way to get your web page to show up in appropriate searches is to utilize some basic practices that are part of good web page design. The most important consideration, is to design your page to contain good content and then relate it to non-displaying tags. Non-displaying tags are pieces of information placed in the html code that do not show in the main body of the page when it is viewed in a browser. These tags include the Title Tag and the Meta Keyword and Meta Description tags.
Meta Tags consist of information that is included with the web page, but that does not show up in the page when it is rendered by your web browser. These tags are used to describe the page and its contents. Frequently search engines will utilize the information in meta tags as part of their ranking schemes.

When will my page be in Documentum?
This will depend upon the nature of your website. We are working with various constituents in the campus to identify when and if certain websites will be migrated to Documentum. Most likely the higher profile sites will be the first to migrate.
What is the advantage of using Documentum?
The strength of a system like Documentum is that it allows us to move toward a enviroment where key pieces of information that are used in multiple locations can have a single point of data management. When successfully implemented, this type of sytem allows the originator of a piece of information to update that information in a central location, and that information is either pushed out to locations where it needs to be published, or pulled into locations that wish to utilize that information within their context. This helps to avoid the problem of having multiple locations presenting the same information that is either conflicting, inaccurate or out of date.
